At Kernow
Coatings we take our environmental responsibilities seriously.
For instance, whilst there will always be debate on the best way
to proceed, we cannot eliminate travel completely, or we will
never see our customers.
Over the last six years we have chosen to support woodland
creation with the Woodland Trust, the UK’s leading woodland
conservation charity. Over the first few years we funded
the planting and lifetime care of more than 9,000 new native
trees in counties across the South West, including Cornwall,
Somerset and Dorset.
In 2012 Kernow Coatings supported the planting and lifetime care
of 1,040 trees at Portscatho on the Tregothnan Estate in
Cornwall as part of the Woodland Trust’s Jubilee Woods Project.
You can see more about the project here,
http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/en/jubilee-woods/about/Pages/our-aims.aspx#.UVMIvhzIY20. We are delighted that the Project has reached its overall target
of 6 million trees planted in honour of Her Majesty The Queen’s
Diamond Jubilee.
For 2013 the work goes on, and we are supporting the restoration
and further planting of woodland at the Ivybridge, near Plymouth
in Devon. One of the many benefits of woodland creation is the ability of
trees to absorb carbon in addition to creating homes for
wildlife. What is important to us is that trees are not merely
planted, but also looked after to grow to maturity and so
perform a valuable rôle as carbon sinks. We believe the
Woodland Trust is the best custodian of this philosophy and are
pleased to work together with them.
Part of the recent planting of mixed deciduous woodland to
extend Duncliffe Wood in Dorset, carried out and to be cared for
by the Woodland Trust on behalf of Kernow Coatings. There is always room for improvement, so environmental
actions will always be a 'Work in Progress', but we have
pleasure in releasing our
Environmental Policy Statement, which are the guidelines by
which we work.
